Charles (“Charlie”) Lowe
Enfield Grammar School
Head of Music 1944 to 1981
As Chairman of the Old Boys Association I have been passed by Chris West (Former EGS Maths teacher) the following letter from Robert Lowe:
I am writing to let you know that Dad died last Saturday (28 July) at the grand old age of 96.
He drifted away, having been admitted to Hereford Hospital with a chest infection, two days earlier. Stuart was with him earlier in the day and I saw him the previous Wednesday at Waverley House - he was wheezing then and the GP was awaited.
There is to be a Service of Thanksgiving at Leominster Priory on 22nd August at 2.00pm. We will have the organist playing some pieces I remember when I used to sit by him on the organ bench when I was 7 or 8.
Stuart is writing a tribute for the service which we will circulate to all his friends.
We would be grateful if you could pass this news on to others who knew him.
Addition from Enfield Grammar School Old Boys Association:
We have already received appreciative memories not only of Charlie’s organisation and promotion of the Music in EGS, but also of Charlie’s teaching, his Pastoral Work (he was Housemaster of Uvedale House for 25 years) and his general participation in the life of the School.
The Service of Thanksgiving takes place in Leominster Priory at 2pm on the 22 August. This has led to several enquiries about the possibility of attending the Service of Thanksgiving. With this in mind, the Old Boys have decided that they will arrange a coach to travel to Leominster and back so that anyone able to attend will be able to travel in comfort and relax during the day’s travelling.
This coach travel will be open to anyone who remembers Charles and would like to attend the Service of Thanksgiving with us as past friends of him – students, staff, Old Boys and musicians, friends etc.
The cost of the trip depends on the number of those who would like to attend and take up the offer. If sufficient friends travel to make the trip viable, the maximum cost to those who travel will not exceed £15 each.
In the meantime, if you are aware of someone else who would like to attend, please encourage them to contact us.

Postponement of Annual Dinner 2017
Dear Old Boys,
The Annual Dinner has, much to my regret, had to be postponed due to a number of circumstances - I know this will come as a great disappointment to you.
I hope to advise of a new date, which will probably be towards the end of the autumn.
Please accept my sincere apologies.
